As previously stated in the past blogs, Catholics and media actually have a pretty good relationship. Media in the Catholic church is most commonly used for awareness and reach out to non-believers. Catholic institutions usually tend to reach out by giving out cards after mass, making announcements after the Eucharist, posting reflective posts on social media and by hanging up posters outside churches to announce festive days or special masses, such as Ash Wednesday and Holy Friday. Based on my observations, at the Rivaio church, here in Castiglion Fiorentino, there is not a lot of media used to reach out to locals. The only kind of media they rely on for diffusion or popularity are posters hanging out side featuring the church's mass times and special event schedule. The reason why this town does not seem to rely too much on media for diffusion is mainly because of its small size and its already Catholic-heavy culture. Since there is only a certain amount of churches in Castiglion Fiorentino, almost all the locals know exactly where all of the churches are located, thus it is comprehensible for it to be no need for diffusion. But regardless of this lack of media spread, the Churches here seem to be quite comfortable working with media. In fact, the church of San Pietro Chanel, here in Castiglion Fiorentino, can be easily located on google maps or any mapping apps with a cross symbol, which means that the church itself has allowed for these mapping companies to put them on there as a religious establishment. Looking at how the churches here in Castiglion Fiorentino use media to explain what are the Catholic teachings about media, may not be the best thing to do because it is not very representative of what the Catholic church does in general. However according to the Communio et Progressio, media is seen as a "gift" among Catholics (Order of Second Vatican Council, 1971, p. 1).
